From the above list choose one game you feel that has the best environment or game space. Please describe what you find amazing about it. Is there anything else you like about the game?

What kind of environment would you like to see in a game?

The following questions are narrative in nature so please have fun with them and answer with playful intent.

You are walking along a path for many days and see a large castle in the distance. You decide to continue your journey toward it and realize the establishment is much larger than you saw before. There are turrets upon turrets and columns upon columns. It seems the castle began as a small area but was soon built higher and higher. On the opposite side of the castle is a cliff at the edge of the sea.

After arriving you see there are no other inhabitants and the castle is a little worn away by the winds of time. You do not know how long this has been here or who might have lived here. You do however begin seeing a reoccurring figure. On every statue and every tapestry there is painted a woman. She is very beautiful in nature and is dressed in flowing garb. It is obvious however that whenever she appears she is pointing or looking at something.

1.       What is the time of day and the season? Is it humid, cold, a blizzard, etc…?

2.       Describe the mood of the castle. Is it peaceful, scary, wonderful, and mysterious?

3.       Do you hear any sounds? What are they of or what do they sound like?

4.       If you came across a garden what color flowers would be growing? Would there be any vegetation?

5.       Do you trust the painted woman that seems to be everywhere in this castle?

6.       Is there anything you would expect to see in the castle? What would it be?

7.       Is there a recurring color within this space?

See the best looking one would be Halo and Batman because of how the higher budgets they have. But my personal favorite is the Ratchet and Clank environment because of how creative and stylized it is.

What kind of environment would you like to see in a game?
I would like to see something like in Epic Mickey where there are different styles of environment depending on location and mood.

Favorite games:
Uncharted series, Heavenly Sword, Jak & Daxter series, Sly Cooper series, Musashi, Shadow of Destiny, Drawn to Life (wii), Evil Zone (and more that I cannot think of at the moment.)

From the above list choose one game you feel that has the best environment or game space. Please describe what you find amazing about it. Is there anything else you like about the game?
For the newer games I would have to say Uncharted, with Jak and Sly in a close second. Uncharted’s game environment breathes and allows you as the player to get a feel of reality. It makes you feel like you are there, and it makes the game world more believable.  I like the weapons, they are a nice variety. I also enjoy the game play puzzles. (Although I have difficulty beating them sometimes!)

What kind of environment would you like to see in a game?
I’ve yet to see a game in an illustrative and highly detailed environment. Say like the art from a child’s storybook (the older ones) Everything is so dark nowadays as in dark shadows on the screen, it’s like game creators are afraid of using sunlight, so a storybook style for environments in a new age video game would be nice if done correctly. I’d play that.

1.        What is the time of day and the season? Is it humid, cold, a blizzard, etc…?
It feels like late autumn, not freezing but chill air. There are still some leaves on the trees surrounding the castle, and the soil is somewhat moist under the grass. It’s a rather windy day.
2.        Describe the mood of the castle. Is it peaceful, scary, wonderful, and mysterious?
Not dark or foreboding, but it feels like the castle is lonely or bored and waiting for a visitor.  As if the whole populace of people who once lived there just vanished one day.
3.        Do you hear any sounds? What are they of or what do they sound like?
The ocean waves as it hits the rocks, I hear birds in the distance all around, and the crunching of the gravel under my feet.
4.        If you came across a garden what color flowers would be growing? Would there be any vegetation?

Some of the garden is dead, because of the season, but much of it is alive some flowers, many weeds, possibly some vegetables under the dirt. It is very much overgrown.

5.        Do you trust the painted woman that seems to be everywhere in this castle?

It’s probable that the woman is kind and is showing the way to something good and unknown, but it is also probable that she is showing the way to a watery grave. If I think about games and game play- she is probably leading me to a helpful pathway, but who is the one she is helping me or herself is still unknown.

6.        Is there anything you would expect to see in the castle? What would it be?
Cobwebs, unused utensils, rooms, clothes, furniture that is old- moth eaten. I see it as a big castle but it’s not empty, it has plenty to fill it, which is why it seems odd that there is no one there.
7.        Is there a reoccurring color within this space?
Browns, tans, reds, and some pale yellows are some of the colors that I see in my mind. Many wood made pieces, like tables, chairs. I see withered tapestries leading up a stone staircase.

From the above list choose one game you feel that has the best environment or game space. Please describe what you find amazing about it. Is there anything else you like about the game?
                Final Fantasy X
The environments in this game were very directional, but not without the player being able to explore to a limited degree. The world was fleshed out well with several different cultures, and the game managed to pull together all the different places’ styles without making the game look inconsistent. The work on textures and designs was impressive and semi-realistic, which I found to really help immerse me in the game. The fact that everything was given a slight fantasy spin but was still largely recognizable was an excellent feature.
What kind of environment would you like to see in a game?
I love seeing well-textured, visually interesting environments, both indoor and outdoor. Attention to detail is a must in a successful environment. I find it especially enchanting when you can play a game several times, but each time you’ll notice something in the environment that you didn’t see the first time through.

1.        What is the time of day and the season? Is it humid, cold, a blizzard, etc…?
I’m traveling in Spring. The weather is cool and refreshing, but the sunlight still makes my skin pleasantly warm when I stand to bask in it. There is a breeze that kicks up every now and again, carrying the scent of flower petals from trees I’ve never seen before. The nights get cold, but I camp when the sun goes down – I only do my exploring when the sun is bright and I can see what I’m walking into.
2.        Describe the mood of the castle. Is it peaceful, scary, wonderful, and mysterious?
The castle is filled with wonder and mysterious silence. It’s both wonderful and awe-inspiring. It’s also a little intimidating. The size of the castle is immense, and there are so many styles in it.
3.        Do you hear any sounds? What are they of or what do they sound like?
The wind echoes eerily through some of the hallways, and leaves and plants rustle outside, but for the most part the castle is quiet.
4.        If you came across a garden what color flowers would be growing? Would there be any vegetation?
The garden is overgrown, but the old cobbled paths are still visible through the overgrown foliage. There are pink, purple, blue, and orange flowers throughout the garden. The darker blooms are closer to the ground, while the brighter colors adorn wall-climbing vine plants.

5.        Do you trust the painted woman that seems to be everywhere in this castle?

The painted woman seems peaceful and maternal. I sense no malice in her appearance. She couldn’t possibly be a bad omen, or else the builders of the castle would not have put her everywhere…

6.        Is there anything you would expect to see in the castle? What would it be?

I expect there will be some obvious signs of years passing and the castle falling into disrepair. Collapsed floors in the worst areas, dust motes in the best areas, mold in the darker, deeper places. Somewhere, wherever the painted lady is pointing ultimately, there must be something special.

7.        Is there a recurring color within this space?

There are lots of purples and blues, hinting at some royal presence or royalty in the painted lady’s appearance. Perhaps the castle was once the home of a line of royalty.
